Our Museum Coordinator, Doris Bailey, has accepted a position with the Department of Natural Resources: Historic Preservation Division. Her last day at the Museum will be October 12, 2018.  Doris did a wonderful job as Museum Coordinator and will be greatly missed by volunteers, board members and, of course, our visitors. It's been such a blessing to have Doris as our Museum Coordinator. We wish her well in her new position!

The Springfield & Central Illinois African American History Museum is seeking to hire a Museum Coordinator.  This is a part-time position. The Museum Coordinator works approximately 20 – 30 hours a week. The selected candidate will be responsible for opening, closing and staffing the Museum during scheduled open hours.  The Coordinator will schedule and conduct tours of exhibits at the Museum, train and schedule volunteers, maintain appropriate records, meet and greet visitors to the Museum, develop monthly volunteer schedules, maintain store inventory and make recommendations to the Board of Directors of the Museum as deemed necessary.

To qualify for this position the applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, excellent communication skills, must have an interest in African American History, 1-3 years of related experience and must be dependable and timely.  An A. A. or equivalent study in African American History is preferred.
