On August 14th at 5:00 pm there will be readings of poetry based on the theme of this year’s gala, “Honoring Foundations of Our Community: African American Businesses, Churches and Organizations”. The Honoring Our Heritage Awards recognizes those that have made significant contributions to Springfield and Central Illinois Communities with an extensive history of significant and momentous contributions, achievements, and activism.

The Gala committee will select the poem that will be read at the Museum’s Annual Gala.
