Dr. King's Non-Violent Advocacy and Activism @ Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum

The Springfield & Central Illinois African American History Museum will continue its tribute to the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination Dr. King by presenting a tribute to honor his legacy of Non-Violent Advocacy and Activism on April 19, 2018, at 6 p.m. at 1440 Monument Ave. Dr. Christi Griffin, author and Director of the Ethics project and National youth conference organizers from St. Louis Missouri will keynote the event. She will share her latest paper on Dr. King’s advocacy for our voting rights.

During this tribute, participants will view some of the most compelling images of the Civil Rights Movement, listen to some protest songs that helped define this non-violent movement, such as “We Shall Overcome”, “Freedom”, “War” and “What’s Going On”. Participants will be entertained by a guest youth show choir.

The Museum will also recognize the advocacy work of several local organizations and present certificates of appreciation to those who have made a difference in Springfield through their advocacy programs.

“The hallmark of Dr. King’s Legacy was his belief that Non-Violent Activism and Advocate for Civil Rights, especially for African Americans, was the right approach to changing public policy and guaranteeing them their rights set forth in the Constitution,” said Robert Moore, co-organizer of the event.
