Legends Luncheon

The Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum along with several organizations throughout the community, are planning events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. King and to recognize the contributions he made to this nation throughout 2018.

We also note that March is National Women’s History Month. This year, our March program for National Women’s History Month will be in conjunction with our commemorative events for Dr. King. We are planning a program entitled “Celebrating Our Legends of the Civil Rights Movement.” Ten women will be honored.

The program will include a biography and photographic display of these women who have participated in the Civil Rights Movement and may have worked with Dr. King. It is our attempt to show the strong character, perseverance, fortitude and strength of a predominately overlooked group of women.

The grand opening of the photographic exhibit and luncheon will be held on March 10, 2018 at the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum. The exhibit will be open to the public at 10:00 AM and the “Legends Luncheon” will begin at 12:30 PM.
