Historical Experiences of African Americans in Springfield
Focusing On the People, Places and Events That Shaped Our Community
With funding from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the City of Springfield will build on research regarding properties associated with Springfield’s African American community between the mid-19th century and the end of the 20th century. The evening will highlight how the research will be conducted. Attendees will then be asked to share information about people, places and events from the past that may have had an important role in shaping our community.
